Big Ono for the grill! 5/19/10

The Baehr family from Colorado, were looking for another adventure to add to their list. Visiting Kona for the past 10 years they have never tried there luck big game fishing. They chartered us for a 3/4 day, in hopes of getting into some action with their two son. We trolled the coast line for wahoo (Ono), May is right in the peak of the Ono season. An hour into the trip we got our first bite, and it was a whopper! This Ono was well above average size, topping the scales a 52.5 lbs! We had another double hook up later in the morning, getting one out of the two.

They had a great time, and really enjoyed eating their fresh catch!

Ralph Bodin 5/5 & 5/7/10

Repeat client Ralph Bodin joined us this week, this time fishing with his wife. First day was uneventful, but enjoyable none the less.
Second day, the two of them celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary, Ralph really was hoping to get his wife a blue to top it off. Mid morning we picked up a 22# otado, or skipjack tuna. This was a very good size fish for that species, and almost topped the biggest of the year!
Lures went back out and a couple hours later up comes a blue on the stinger. Everyone got to see it as it was back there pushing water after the lure. The fish finally ate it properly and the fight began. Mrs. Bodine hopped in the chair and put her muscles to work. This former marathon finisher made short work of this feisty blue, getting it close rather quickly. The estimated 225 pound blue put on a great show close to the boat and on leader. Ralph got some amazing pictures that we will be posting as soon as I get them.
After a ten minute fight the fish swam away in great shape, high fives and smiles went all around!

Two big Ahi 4/24/10

Persistence paid off today, after working a tuna school for most of the day we got lucky. I was just about to say to Josh, wind up our green stick rig when wham, we got bit. A nice 140 pound tuna got tricked to switch our luck around. After cleaning up and putting that fish on ice, we started back up in the school to have another one blast off shortly after. Our second tuna weighed 100 pounds.
Mr. Meiners from Alaska was very happy with his catch.
